Gelly Babes October Outing

October 22nd 2013
The Gelly Babes outing to Dale Abbey

Today there were four Gelly Babes as Pam was able to join in the fun - Maggie was off on a jaunt of her own to Caolbrookedale - hope she had as much fun as we did!
We rendezvoused at the Carpenters Arms and set off almost on time, we did get excited when we spotted a coffee place which we thought was a good place to start but sadly it wasn't open!

We had some directions from the internet which looked very straightforward but we did manage to get a bit lost at the start but having lost ourselves we did find the Hermits Cave!

It was supposed to be a flat walk!

Happily the rain held off for most of the walk but we did have a few hoods up moments and the walk directions did start to disolve - luckily Jo's copy stayed intact!

Heave Ho Babes!
Three Gelly Babes striding out - one left behind!

Once we got back on track it was a lovely walk through farmland, woodland and fields of maize and the muddy bits just added to the fun. Jo manage to collect food for her tea along the way. We even managed to get Pam safely across the busy road - twice, she's not used to traffic!

Gelly Babes can always find a fungi!

We arrived back at the pub just as the heavens opened and settled down for some hearty pub grub and a good natter.

Gelly Babes September Outing

September 24th 2013
The Gelly Babes outing to Calke Abbey

Today the Gelly Babes hit Calke Abbey. Sadly our numbers were depleted by the dreaded 'visitors' descending on those members who still have to work for a living! So today the Gelly Babes were Helen M, Helen J and Jo. This was a first meeting since two of us have retired so lots to talk about.

We rendezvoused at Helen J's and had a quick inspection of her splendid new kitchen then off to Calke and first stop coffee in the sunshine. How very clever of Helen J to organise a lovely sunny day for us but then she is a very organised person.

After coffee we set off for a walk - avoiding the diggers creating a new car park - down to the pond with a bit of deer spotting on the way to the resevoir all very lovely. Back to the cafe at Calke for lunch of cauliflower and smoked cheese soup which was delicous and then another wander through the otherside of the park.

We had a lovely day, perfect place, perfect weather lots of laughs but our thoughts were always with our absent friends - lets hope we can get all the Gelly Babes together for the next one.

Amazing what you can find clinging to the bark of trees!
